Neurotic?

So I get teased a little about how neurotic I am about my kids safety. Helmets, life jackets, seat belts, and so on...
One thing I really don't like is hard candy. I choked on it once when I was 5 and never quite forgot how terrified I was. I don't like my kids having it and people kind of roll their eyes when I say that.
Jackson is my middle. He is going to be 4 at the end of this month. He has been choking on something, to the point of having to do the Heimlich maneuver, at least 8 times. Once we even had to call the paramedics. I thought he was going to die in my arms. I keep thinking that he will outgrow this choking "thing." We have not had an incident since December (he choked on an orange slice at Church). Yesterday, while getting in the car to go play with some friends, Jack found a mint that was in my cup holder in the front. He climbs to the very back where his seat is and starts choking. Really choking. Like he can't even catch a little breath. I drag him over the middle seat, turn him upside down, and start pounding on his back. He threw up twice before the WHOLE candy came up. WHOLE. No bites. Not even sucked to a smaller size yet. I really wonder how many times I can successfully do the Heimlich maneuver on him.
I have come to a conclusion. I am not THAT neurotic. My candy aversion is completely justified.
After all that, Jackson says, "I only have gum huh mom?"
Me, "Yes, no more hard candy."

  2. People try to offer Anthony hard candy all the time. I too get the eye rolling but not only is that stuff a choking hazard but its also bad for there little teeth. It drives me nuts when I see parents give there kids that crap but all I can do is keep my kids safe. More power to you at being a good mother. Also have you asked a doctor why he has such a small throat path and how many times can you give someone the heimlich without hurting them. We love and miss you guys!!!!
